Custom Molder saves time and money switching to Dyna-Purge D2 – “a great product that meets all of our molding needs.”

Situation

Founded in 1928, Quick Point, Inc. of Fenton, MO is a leading producer of custom molded products and promotional items. They operate 14 molding machines including cold runner and hot runner, along with blow molding equipment. Quick Point runs a variety of production resins from ABS, SAN and Polycarbonate to Nylon, Polypropylene, and Copolyesters. The company purges when changing materials, as well as colors. Quick Point custom molds a medical part made of a copolyester material that can have no black specks or contamination of any kind. They were using 300 pounds of regrind and about 50 pounds of virgin material ($4 per lb.) on every changeover. Quick Point was also experiencing problems when running other resins and color changes. They had been using a liquid chemical purge that was “very messy and time consuming” as stated by Toby Hensley, Molding Manager. “We have to hand mix the liquid product with some material and then purge.” Toby and his team set out to find a single purging compound that was easy to use for all of their different applications.

Solution

Quick Point requested a sample of Dyna-Purge D2. Per Toby, “using a small amount of Dyna-Purge D2 to purge out the copolyester, I am down to only 25 pounds of regrind and 8 pounds of virgin material.” Toby said he showed his supervisors how easy it is to work with Dyna-Purge D2 when changing colors or materials. It works well for removing both liquid and pellet colors especially the more difficult colors such as red, black and yellow. “We are saving hundreds of dollars in material costs since switching to Dyna-Purge D2,” he reported. “It is a great product that meets all of our molding needs – I will continue to use it for quick color and material changes.”

Results

• Regrind was reduced from 300 to 25 pounds and virgin material was cut from 50 to 8 pounds when running copolyester material.
• Dyna-Purge D2 is easy to work with, eliminating the mess and cost of mixing a liquid chemical purge with other materials.
• Due to the versatility of Dyna-Purge D2, Quick Point can now use just one product to satisfy all of their purging needs.
• Using Dyna-Purge D2 saves Quick Point hundreds of dollars in material costs.
