Injection Molder switched to Dyna-Purge® D2 after trials concluded it outperformed the competition.

Situation

Hague Quality Water International is the oldest water treatment manufacturer in the United States under continuous family ownership, and its Groveport, Ohio facility operates injection molding equipment to produce components for its water softening products. The company purges the equipment 8 to10 times a week at shutdown, color changes and material changes. They run a variety of resins including ABS, 20% glass filled PP, 30% glass filled Noryl, Acetyl and unfilled PP.

As part of an ongoing effort to improve changeover times and lower scrap rates, Mike McCoy, Molding Supervisor, researched different commercial purging compounds and requested samples for trialing.

Solution

An extensive purging trial was conducted comparing Dyna-Purge D2 to a prominent chemical/mechanical purging compound. While both worked well (only 8 lbs. required), the chemical/mechanical purging compound left a residue on the screw surface. As a result, it required 25% more of the next production resin to remove the remaining chemical/mechanical film. Hague was able to determine that Dyna-Purge D2 offered an overall cost savings of more than 5% on every purge. “We switched to Dyna-Purge D2 after trials concluded it outperformed the competition,” Mike McCoy said. “What’s more, the customer service at Dyna-Purge has been top notch from day one!”
